One program, three teams, and hundreds of students exploring science, technology, and engineering through competition, teamwork, and hands-on discovery.
Science Olympiad is the nation's premier team-based science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) competition. Founded in 1984, it now reaches more than 7,000 teams across all 50 states, turning classroom science into a spectator sport.
Each team of up to 15 students competes in a rotation of 23 events spanning the full range of the sciences — life science, earth & space science, physical science, chemistry, technology, and engineering. Events fall into three broad styles:
Teams advance through Regional, State, and National tournaments. Along the way students build deep content knowledge, engineering skill, and the collaboration and time-management habits that carry into college and careers.
The 2027 events fall into five official categories — there really is something for every kind of scientist. (Division C shown below; see the Middle Schools page for the full Division B slate.)
Anatomy & Physiology, Botany, Designer Genes, Disease Detectives, Water Quality
Astronomy, Dynamic Planet, Remote Sensing, Rocks and Minerals
Chemistry Lab, Circuit Lab, Forensics, Hovercraft, Protein Modeling, Thermodynamics
Boomilever, Electric Vehicle, Mission Possible, Wright Stuff
Codebusters, Engineering CAD, Experimental Design, Ping-Pong Parachute
Science Olympiad at Cumberland Valley runs in two divisions — middle school (Division B) and high school (Division C). Each division competes on its own track, advancing independently from Regionals to States to Nationals.
Cumberland Valley fields a high school team and two middle school teams, creating a full pipeline of Science Olympians from sixth grade through senior year.
Our varsity program competes in the Division C (grades 9–12) circuit, from Regionals through the road to States.
Division CGrades 9–12Eagle View and Mountain View each field a Division B (grades 6–9) team, building the skills that feed our high school success.

Jibby Jr joined CVSO in 2019. He has been to LISO, Battle at Valley Forge, DSM, Solon, MIT, SOUP, North Pocono, SOAPS, CPA, PASO, & Nationals!
He loves entertaining Division B teams at Eagle Invy and hanging out at the Eagle View and Cumberland Valley team home bases throughout the tournament season.
He is proud of the Cumberland Valley High School team for qualifying for Nationals four times, and of Eagle View Middle School for earning a National bid of its own. He's even prouder of his team for winning the 2022 Science Olympiad Spirit Award at Nationals.
Jibby Jr's favorite events are Astronomy, Forensics, and Experimental Design, but he has the most fun when he gets to wing it in a trial event such as Cybersecurity.
